Club Faire
RESERVING A SPACE
You must SIGN UP for club faire! It usually takes place the 2nd or 3rd week of each new semester, so go to the Student Activities Center and ask to sign up for club faire ASAP.
Because we sell food, we need 2 forms: the normal sign-up form, and the food clearance form. The normal form is small. Be sure to request an extra table and extra chairs, an awning, and a BBQ. Ask for the food clearance form. Fill it out and take it to public safety to be signed. Be sure to say that all food will be held COLD, and that nothing is prepared off campus. You need to pick the form up from public safety and turn it in to the Student Activities Center!
OTHER RESERVATIONS
You need to speak to catering and rent 2 chafing dishes. You will also need serving tongs, sternos, tinfoil, and a bucket to put ice in. When making the reservations, you only need to ask for the chafing dishes.
GETTING VOLUNTEERS
The booth runs smoothly when there are at LEAST 4 people there at once at all times. 6 is the best number. One person should handle the cash box (and speak to people who seem interested in the club, if there are not more people sitting out front). One person needs to grill chicken. One person should cut and serve chicken, and at least one person should put the rice and veggies into the bowl. It helps to have another person to handle putting the sauce on the bowl.
RICE COOKERS
Don’t forget to ask people to bring rice cookers! Five is the best number to have. Make sure they bring them ALREADY FULL OF COOKED RICE.
BUYING FOOD
Buy the food from Costco. We need the following:
2 bottles of teriyaki sauce
2 bags of baby carrots
3 bags of broccoli florets
3 packages of boneless, skinless chicken thighs
1 flat of bottled water
1 box of pepsi
Your budget is $100. Try not to go over!
from time to time we also need to purchase the following:
bowls
napkins
forks
rice
If you are in charge of Club Faire, check how many of these you have at home!

SETTING UP
You should be there to set up ONE HOUR before club faire starts. Chances are ASI will not have tables out yet. That’s fine - there’s plenty to do.
Pick up the chafing dishes from the kitchen: make sure you get one large pan for rice, and two small ones for borccoli and carrots. These pans sit inside the chafing dishes. Don’t forget the tongs. Ask for tinfoil to wrap around the dishes to keep the sternos out of the wind. Ask for matches to light the sternos. Ask for a bucket to put ice in. (The buckets are large, plastic, and have rope handles). Ask to borrow a cart for the chafing dishes; it’s easier to carry them and you can use it later.
Get ice: Use the cart you got from catering to take the cooler and bucket to the MSR building. Right after you pass the small cafe, there’s a door on the left that says service entrance. Go through the door to the back of the hall; on the left there should be a room with a big ice machine. Fill em up! Return the cart to catering when you are done.
Set-up at the booth: Once the tables and awning are up, set out the chafing dishes. They need to have water in them below the pans! Wrap the lower halves with tinfoil to block the wind. Empty the rice out of the rice cookers and start more rice cooking.
Get the BBQ: if you don’t have it half an hour before club faire starts, you will miss the first rush. If there isn’t one sitting in front of the game room, go ask someone in ASI (or at the ASI table that gave you tables) where the %#*^%# your BBQ is. you have a 50/50 chance that it will come with tools.
Display: Put the tablecloth on the table with the nice anime items on display. This table should NOT have food on it. This table should also have the vinyl banner on the front. You may want to cover the other table with paper from the ASI poster room to make cleanup easier. Put the sign with the food prices on the front of the food prep table.
DURING CLUB FAIRE
Make sure your volunteers are speaking to possible new members, not just each other!
Be ready for rushes of people and dry spells in between. Don’t cook a ton of chicken unless there are a ton of people lined up, otherwise it will just get cold while you wait for customers. Don’t keep the sauce on the heat constantly; leave one part of the grill unlit for this purpose. Don’t let people handling food handle money; money is dirty! Be sure to yell loudly and without shame about how awesome our Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowls are ^_^ Don’t lose sight of your duct tape; other clubs will take it, and they won’t give it back! Keep food off the display table, and ask people nicely to move it if they set it there. If you need change, get it from Pop’s.
OTHER INFO
Karl is invaulable at club faire. He bring a ton of stuff for display, plus his own extension cord, tv, paper towels, plastic gloves, BBQ tools, rice cookers, and water for them. He knows how everything should be set up, works tirelessly at the BBQ, and takes pictures for the website. WHEN IN DOUBT, ASK KARL!
If you’ve done well, you should have a net profit of $200 when you’re done!

ADVERTISING
There are many places we can advertise! Here’s a list of ways we;ve advertised in the past:
Flyers on campus
Flyers off campus
Posters on campus
PSAs (Public Service Announcements) on radio stations
Newspaper community calendars
MySpace
Craig’s List
The PR Club
Gaia Online
Radio
If you want to put a PSA on MOST of Modesto’s radio stations (which are owned by clearchannel), a PSA form must be filled out SIX WEEKS before the event! The best place to get this form is kfiv1360.com.
NPR is very supportive and has always run a PSA for us. Contact them at psa@capradio.org
Do a search for Modesto radio stations; local station websites are unreliable, so which ones are up and down change from semester to semester. Keep trying! ^_^
Don’t forget to go a little outside the area; as far as Stockton is a good radius.
Papa Murphy’s Fundraiser
This is a very easy fundraiser to do. All you need to do is stop by ANY Papa Murphy’s (location does not matter) and tell them you’d like to do the pizza card fundraiser. The manager of the Papa’s Murphy’s must be the one to give you the cards, so sometimes you’ll have to call him or her and make an appointment to meet to pick up the cards.
Buy 50 cards. This will cost us $50. We then sell each card for $5. If everyone does their part, we make $200!
