Asian Double Feature Film Festival

The Asian Double feature Film Festival will take place on March 29th from 3 pm to 7 pm in the Mainstage Theater on the CSUS Turlock Campus.
We will be watching 2 films at this festival; one animation, and the other Live Action. Both of our films with be shown in Japanese with english subtitles.
Attendance is free and open to the public! Join us for an afternoon of wonderful Asian cinema!
Film descriptions and showing times:
3 pm: Piano no Mori (Forest of the Piano)
Japanese Animation, Drama
This heartwarming tale of friendship and drama is set in a rural Japanese village, where 5th grader Amamiya Shuei is forced to move due to his grandmother’s illness. Bullied by his classmates for announcing his desire to become a professional pianist, Shuei is rescued by Ichinose Kai. On a dare, the boys must enter the forest to play a mysterious and supposedly broken piano that has been abandoned there. Though Shuei practices diligently, only Kai is able to make the piano in the forest produce sound…
This brand new film debuted in Japan in July 2007. Directed by Masayuki Kojima, known for his work on Samurai Champloo and Paranoia Agent.
There will be a 20 minute intermission between the films.
5 pm: Hinokio
Japanese Live Action, Drama, Science Fiction
After an accident leaves elementary school student Satoru Iwamoto confined to a wheelchair, he cuts himself off from the outside world, never leaving his home. Satoru uses a remotely controlled robot to attend school for him, which his classmates affectionately name “Hinokio.” While a new friend opens his eyes to the joy of being alive, he makes a shocking discovery about the robot’s origin which costs him the trust of his classmates. In an effort to set things right, Satoru puts his own life and the fate of the robot on the line, and the adventure may even force him to step outside into the sunlight for the first time since the accident.
Directed by Takahiko Akiyama, visual effects art director of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
These films contain adult language. Parental supervision is required for attendees under the age of 15.
