Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I become a member?
All you have to do to be considered an official member is to attend 2 consecutive meetings or 3 non-consecutive meetings. Remember to sign in on our roll sheet!
  • Are there any fees?
Nope. Donations are gladly accepted, though.
  • What do you guys do?
We meet weekly to watch anime and play video games. We also take field trips to anime-and Japanese culture-related events such as the Cherry Blossom Festival, theatrical releases of anime, anime conventions, etc. Every semester we have at least one film festival that is free and open to the community. We also cooperate with Late Night Stanislaus to hold a video game tournament with prizes each semester.
  • Do you make animation/comics?
    No. Stop asking.
  • How do you say Animeikyou?
    It’s pronounced ah-nee-MAY-kee-yoh.
  • What does your name mean?
Our name is a combination of the words “anime” and “eikyou.” Anime is, of course, Japanese animation. Eikyou means effect or under the influence of. Our name can be taken to mean “The Anime Effect” or “Under the Influence of Anime.”
  • How can I get a membership card?
You are automatically entitled to a membership card after becoming a member. We usually distribute them around the 3rd and 4th meetings of the semester. If you don’t have one yet, just ask. You cannot buy a membership card.
  • Can I get a card even though it’s late in the semester?
We don’t generally give out membership cards for the last 2 or 3 meetings of the semester. If it’s before that….just ask.
  • Will you show the anime I bring to club?
Only on a designated Random Anime Day. We will let you know ahead of time when we’re going to have a random anime day. We usually have one on the last meeting of every semester.
  • Can you guys burn me copies of the stuff we’re watching?
No. We’re sorry, but we have too many members and not enough time to burn copies of anime for everyone who asks. If we only burned copies for a few people, it wouldn’t be fair, so we have to say no to everyone. The last meeting every semester has an anime swap, though, so be sure to get in on it if there’s something you really want!
